A Kindergarten Teacher’s Guide to Supporting Family Involvement in Foundational Reading Skills

Families promote foundational reading skills with their children in many different spaces in their home and community, including daily conversation at mealtimes, bed and wake up times, during story time, in the grocery story, while playing together, and more.

This Kindergarten Teacher’s Guide to Supporting Family Involvement in Foundational Reading Skills and series of videos of families at home provides information on how to support families as they practice reading and other early literacy skills at home. We like the videos because they are more realistic than most videos and photos of families reading at home. This report was created by the IES Regional Educational Laboratory at Florida State University.
