How Families Help Prepare their Children for Adulthood

This information brief from the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability provides information about how families influence and support their children as they transition into adulthood.

Their first example is that families…

Maintain high expectations that their children will succeed in school, employment, and as members of their community. Convey these high expectations to educators, to service providers and to their children. Low expectations are often cited as contributing to limited educational and employment outcomes. In contrast, high family expectations are associated with improved achievement in these areas, as well as increased resiliency.”

This is recommended reading for both families and school staff to get ideas for how to work together to help student success take off after high school!
