Guidance for Families of Children Learning English – How to Make Sure Your Child has the Resources They Need in the Classroom

This toolkit from the Improving Instruction Project has resources for families of children who are learning English. The guides for families on their website include:
- Building Successful Communication Between Parents/Guardians and Teachers
- Working with Language Interpreters – You have the right to ask the school for a language interpreter to help you talk to your child’s teacher.
- Accessibility Features and Accommodations – For example, a child may need extra time to complete a homework assignment or read a test in English. Some students may benefit from having a dictionary to look up English words.
Print and audio versions of these briefs will soon be available in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Arabic.
