Career Conversation Starters

Based on research related to family engagement in middle school career development, our Middle Years to Careers team developed conversation starters about students interests and career possibilities. In middle school, students learn a lot about themselves, what they are interested in, what natural abilities they have, and how this might relate to the world of work. As families are a primary influence in their child’s career development, it is important that they feel comfortable talking with their children about what they are learning. We want to help you keep conversations light and fun, focusing on easy ways to make those connections at home. Using this resource, you can download conversation starters on 3 main topics: students’ interests and strengths, their exploration of careers, and their use of resources in the community.
