Family Engagement in School Safety: Ohio’s Legal Requirements for Schools

Ohio Statehouse

According to Ohio Revised Code (Law), schools must engage families in developing and refining school emergency management plans and must communicate with families each year about the plans. Schools should ensure their outreach and engagement methods are accessible to all families, in consideration of the home language and literacy-level of parents/caregivers, as they communicate about safety plans and other safety concerns and resources.
